lizak headshotFormer Long Island Campus Athletic Director Don Lizak started with the College in 1994 and molded SJC into a highly regarded NCAA Division III institution. A four-time winner of the Skyline Conference Presidents Cup, Lizak retired after 19 years of service in late 2013.

Lizak oversaw SJC’s transition into a full-fledged NCAA Division III member in 1997, following memberships in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. During his tenure, the intercollegiate athletics program grew from eight varsity sports (with two support squads) to 19 (with one support squad). Under his guidance, the College opened the John A. Danzi Athletic Center in 1997 and recently unveiled a 24.8-acre state-of-the-art Outdoor Field Complex in March 2012.

Lizak’s career has spanned 38 years in college athletics, including stints in athletic administration and coaching on the basketball court at Southampton College (Long Island University), Wagner College, St. John’s University, Queens College and LIU Post. Before heading the Golden Eagles’ intercollegiate athletic department, he spent four years with the Metropolitan PGA as tournament director.

Christopher Frost

“A year ago, I made a commitment to leave San Diego and move to Long Island for one reason: a commitment to use whatever skills and abilities I possess to advance the mission of St. Joseph’s College. Included in that pledge is a giving back to the College. I hope that you will join me on this count, and contribute in a way that will help us enter our next 100 years on the strongest foundation possible.”
